First Ever Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge - Flowers

Hi Everyone!! Welcome to the First ever Elizabeth Craft Designs Design Team Challenge. Once a month we (the designers) will have a challenge using a different theme here at the ECD blog and this month's theme is Flowers. What a better way to hurry Spring in and Winter out than the use of flowers. I don't know about you but I'm tired of winter, here in Alberta, the winters can be long and cold almost 6 months long. So I can hardly wait for Spring, I have already heard the geese back in town. So for my inspiration since I'm a Horticulturist, I decided to have a flower shop as the basis for my card challenge. For the front of my card I used Blushing Bride for my base which is a 5"x 7" finished card size. I then used Bo Bunny 'Primrose' collection for the rest. I added 3 layers and then cut the rose silhouette using the Elizabeth Craft Design die called "Roses (799)" using the iridescent pink shimmer sheetz. I then used the black velvet paper and cut it out using the same die but used the overlay instead. I then cut out various leaves from the same die and used Green Iridescent and Green Peridot Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz. I stamped the sentiment using black crafter's ink, clear embossing powder and used the stamp called 'Friends Forever'. A neat trick is to lay clear magic tape over the words you don't want inked, remove tape and stamp. Then do it for the other side and that's how I stamped the words in 2 different spots.

For the inside, I started off using Early Espresso paper for my base which is 4 3/4" X 6 3/4" which will fit inside the pink card base and cut it out using Karen Burniston's  Lots of Pops die which cuts out the various platforms to which you can add flowers as seen here. In Karen's March Challenge for her design team she shows you how to add more platforms as seen in this video here. So I have added 2 more platforms to add more flowers cause you can never have too much flowers in a flower shop. I added another layer of paper from the Primrose collection and then cut out another Green Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz and emboss using Curvy Leaves Embossing Folder by ECD. I then used some Alcohol ink in various green colors to add some depth. I then cut out the posts using the same die, it was part of the die package using double sided adhesive backed onto brown paper. I then used Teal (628) & Leaf Green (634) Silk Microfine Glitter by ECD to color the posts. I then printed out the 'Flower Shop' words onto Blushing Bride paper and cut it out using banner die that came with the Lots of Pops die collection. I strung the words on using Early Espresso twine and used Tim Holtz little stapler to attach them. I then used the Peel Offs by Elizabeth Crafts called 'Flowers in Pot" (SKU 0356). One of my favorite ways to color Peel Offs is to used double sided adhesive,  Cool Diamond glitter and Copic Markers. Els van de Burgt has a really great video to show you how it is done as seen here.
For the bottom of the card, I added another layer of paper and then cut a piece of pink Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz. Again ran it thru Curvy Leaves Embossing Folder by ECD and then used some Alcohol ink in various pink and red colors to add some depth. I added a sticker from the Primrose Collection by Bo Bunny and stamped the sentiment by Penny Black "The Thought of You" using black crafter's ink and clear embossing powder. I cut it down so it would fit on the sticker. Check back on March 31st for the rest of the Design Team cards on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

Daisies - Thank You

I was super excited to be asked to join the first ever Elizabeth Craft Designs Design Team! Today is my first post and I'm going to show you how to use Karen Burniston's Newest Pop It Ups Collection dies called 'Accordion Oval'  to make a real simple card. In this die package comes an oval frame along with 4 nesting ovals plus a heart. I started off using Pool Party paper as my base and cut out 2 frames using the Oval frame die. I then used various papers by Kaisercraft collection called 'Enchanted Garden' for the rest. So after cutting out the frames, I wanted to add a layer to both frames which is really easy to do. Using the butterfly paper, I cut it out twice using the same oval frame die. All I did was cut out the oval out and cut the frame down 1/8th along the short and long sides. I did this to all 4 sides of the 2 frames. You can see Karen demoing about this die here
I cut out 2 more ovals using the dies that come with this oval set and stamped the sentiment by Stampendous using Archival ink by Wendy Vecchi. I added a black butterfly peel-off by ECD called 'Daisies in Oval' and coloured it using Copic Markers on Warm Diamond Glitter.  You can see Els demoing it  here on YouTube video.
For the inside of both frames, I cut out the polka Dot border using ECD die called 'Oval Dot Frame Edges using double side adhesive that was placed onto decorative paper. I then applied Fuchsia (619) Silk Microfine Glitter to the left side of the frame and Leaf Green (619) to the right. For the left side I used the black peel-off Daisies in Oval ECD 2558 and coloured them using Warm Diamond Glitter using the following Copic Markers seen here

For the right side I cut out the daisy silhouette using a ECD die called 'Daisy' (901) and used the pink shimmer sheetz and then cut the overlay using black velvet sheet by ECD. I then used a Quick Glue pen to the centre of the flower and added some Fuchsia glitter.  I then cut the leaves using the leaf die from the same die set using Peridot Gemstone shimmer sheetz. I cut out the 'Thank You" using the ECD die called 'Thank You' (723) using Pink and Black Velvet paper. I laid the black 'Thank You' and then offset the pink 'Thank You' on top.

Mix Media Canvas

Did you ever have something bizarre happen to you? Last September I had a strange phone call from a friend who immediately thought of me after showing her a few of my oil paintings. Someone was looking for artist who could to do a poster for Consulting Engineers of Alberta for their Gala which was happening in February 2014. Well I was overwhelmed to say the least, I had never thought of myself as an artist but someone who just loved to create.  But never having done anything like that, I was wondering if I could be up for the challenge- mostly Graphic Artists do this. The only requirements was that it had to have a Tuscany theme, something with Leonardo da Vinci who was the founder of Engineering and their theme for this Gala. Apparently after I had submitted my canvas they had changed the theme. So I started off using a 12"x 12" canvas which I applied light molding paste using a palette knife careful to mix up my strokes to give that Venetian Plaster texture look. I then took some Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst sprays using gold, red, pink and copper, letting them drip down the canvas. After letting the canvas dry, I made a column stencil using blank stencils from The Crafter's Workshop. I then taped the column stencil down and apply light molding paste. I applied more molding paste and used a Tim Holtz stencil 'Measured' to the bottom of the canvas. After letting the canvas dry, I rubbed some acrylic burnt umber paint onto molding paste make it look like marble and scrubbed it off. I also added some Viva Decor inks to highlight the Ruler at the bottom of the canvas. After it was dry I then took another leaf stencil and applied more molding paste, again let it dry. Then I applied some Mona Lisa adhesive and let it dry so I could add some variegated leafing. I then floated some black acrylic ink around the columns to make them stand out. I then printed the Leonardo da Vinci and the sentiment 'Building our Place in the Community' onto acetate. Applied them to the canvas using soft matte gel and highlighted it using Viva Decor inks.

NOTE: I did not get the job but the experience was quite valuable and I had lots of fun!!

Here is another Tri Shutter card using Night of Navy paper for the base and I used Bo Bunny's 'Woodland Winter' paper for the rest. I applied Holly Branch and Pine Branch by ECD onto double sided adhesive which is backed onto shimmery white paper, then applied Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter by ECD to cover the whole card. I then coloured the Holly and Pine Branch using Copic Markers in the following colours; G19, G85, YG06 and YG95. You can see the actual YouTube video by Els here. I then cut out the branches using the die called 'Sprig with Berries' (765) by ECD that the ornaments hang from using light blue glitter paper as shown on both sides of the main image. I then cut out the silhouette using Blue Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz by ECD and the die Ornament Set 2 by ECD. Then I cut the overlay using light blue glitter paper using the overlay from the same ornament die set. I did the same thing on the right of the main image, the only difference was I used Ornament Set 1 by ECD. With all three ornaments I punched a hole using a 1/8th hole punch and tied a bow using silver threading.
